An inside job...
We search for it in things and outer circumstances. It simply isn't there. I'm talking about happiness. We tend to think, "If I can get this or that I'll be happy;" "If I can change my outer circumstances, I'll be happy." It simply isn't true. Happiness is an inside job.
If life teaches us anything, it teaches us that everything is impermanent, transitory. That being true, once I get something, or change my outer circumstances, guess what? Things change. Since everything is transitory, it's futile to attach happiness to something outside ourselves --- either things or circumstances. We either find, create, or express happiness with what we have and where we are, or we simply will not have it. It's an inside job. It's that simple, but it's not easy.

Very true and an important reminder. Our society trains us to look at the external and use that as our compass. How we would all look at the world differently if these were the eyes we looked through.
